Program Director's Welcome Neurology Residency Top Constance V. Katsafanas, D.O. Program Director Suparna R. Krishnaiengar, M.B.B.S. (M.D.) Associate Program Director Shannon M. LaBoy, M.D. Associate Program Director Welcome to the Neurology Residency Program in the department of neurology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. In addition to the neurology residency, the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville has many other residency and fellowship programs. This three-year program is accredited through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, or ACGME, and features a diverse, competency-based curriculum combining an outstanding clinical experience with bedside and didactic teaching from exceptional UF faculty. The curriculum also provides extensive exposure to neurological research. Neurology residents conduct their inpatient training at UF Health Jacksonville, a DNV Healthcare-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. The hospital's helicopter air ambulance, UF Health TraumaOne Flight Services, is used to transport patients with ischemic strokes to the hospital from a 12-county area. These patients are evaluated for intravenous thrombolysis, intra-arterial thrombolysis and clot retrieval. Patients with complex seizure disorders are admitted to a six-bed video EEG monitoring unit on the neurology floor, and patients with critical neurological issues are admitted to a 12-bed neurointensive care unit. Outpatient adult neurology training, including the neurology resident continuity clinic, occurs at the UF Health Neuroscience Institute. The Neuroscience Institute also serves as a referral center for subspecialty neurology, including epilepsy, demyelinating diseases, neuromuscular disorders, neuropathy, movement disorders, sleep disorders and headache. Residents spend one month each year at the UF College of Medicine campus in Gainesville, rotating through pediatric neurology at UF Health Shands Children's Hospital. Residents see pediatric patients with a wide variety of neurologic disorders while being supervised and taught by UF physicians from the division of pediatric neurology. Our program provides lodging while on this rotation. Please take some time to navigate through our site to learn more about our residency program. Please contact us if we can offer any further information regarding our program. Constance V.
