3rd Year Required Rotations: (UF students only)
- Neurology – 4 weeks (4 weeks in Jacksonville)
4th Year Required and Elective Rotations
Neurology – Jacksonville (NEUR E 1J)
The rotation duration is from two to four weeks and is designed to enhance a student’s knowledge of clinical neurology but may be tailored according to student interests and professional plans. Thus, the rotation can also focus on specific clinical subspecialty interests. Students can rotate in the outpatient neurology clinic, inpatient consultation service and neurology ward and/or may work with individual faculty members in their specialty clinics.
Mobile Stroke Unit and Telestroke – Jacksonville (NEUR E 2J)
Immerses learners in mobile stroke unit and telestroke operations over two weeks, emphasizing real-world application of emerging technologies, including AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment. Develops clinical decision-making skills through direct patient care across prehospital, in-hospital, and remote settings.
Participates in virtual meetings covering stroke fundamentals, clinical assessment approaches, and acute stroke management. Case-based discussions reinforce applied decision-making and expose learners to real-world telestroke workflows and AI-assisted tools used in practice. Students will participate in field-based stroke response by riding with the Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit (MSTU) from designated firehouses, responding to community stroke alerts, conducting CT imaging in the prehospital setting, and administering thrombolytics. Hospital-based activities include providing telestroke coverage alongside attendings, performing virtual NIHSS assessments, and making evidence-based thrombolytic therapy decisions for remote facilities. Students may observe endovascular thrombectomy procedures as part of comprehensive acute stroke management.
